I am pleased to share this with you all. One of my ASL 201 students did a mini-documentary film for her class project along with Chelsea Daniel. Sarika Mehta was my interpreter during the interview. It was wonderful working with all of them. The reason Ms. Sabi wanted to show CSUMB (California State University-Monterey Bay) about how the students feel about ASL, teachers put a full focus on making sure students are learning the language, culture, and being involved in deaf community. Belen Sabi is one of my student who worked hard and dedicated her time to make sure she is learning in class and outside of class. I began to noticed students in our ASL department use sign language to communicate with ASL instructors outside of class, such as Starbucks, Peets & Coffee, or any other cafe on campus. They enjoyed the silent and just using our hands to communicate with each other. Other students noticed and immediately decided to register our ASL classes.
Looking at the schedule, we've noticed our ASL classes are growing and more students are interested in taking ASL minor, or possibility to become an interpreter in the future. Others want to work with deaf and hard of hearing children in school.

This is the link that Belen Sabi directed and created the film with her classmate, Chelsea. Chelsea is new and learned a lot about ASL through Belen and other students in our class. She is considering to sign up to learn more about ASL.
I am looking forward to see CSUMB to expand the program for ASL Department.
