Titus The Movie Fundraising Campaign

Our Story

Hello all,

We are a team of two female filmmakers trying to shoot our very first feature film with the help of family, friends and the local community. We just decided that being broke shouldn't stand in the way of doing creative stuff that we both love, so no more waiting for big shots to give us money and by that an opportunity to make our first feature film, we just decided we want to make it happen no matter what!!

Recently we met a very talented young actress in LA who inspired us to write a script for her, then we were lucky enough to find an extraordinary woman who happens to be deaf and is going to portray our deaf character in the film.

We made an effort to actually cast an actress from deaf community instead of casting a hearing actress to play the part. We really wanted to be as authentic as possible and also give a chance to a wonderful actors from deaf community.

It's also very remarkable that our lead actress is learning sign language for this part. I myself (writer/director) have been learning sign as you can see from the video :), so we are serious about making this film as true and honest as possible.

PS. We started shooting this project about two months ago, were not able to raise enough money to let us keep shooting, so we are on hold right now, need more funds, which will go to providing food for the actors and some gas money.

The Impact

Our shooting style will also contribute to this quest, we'll be using mainly natural and available light and shooting documentary style. The film is a drama piece, it's about a young girl who enters life of a deaf woman, affecting both of their lives in the ways she didn't bargain for, only at the end of the film we find out the truth about the girl. The film tackles such issues as drug addiction, child abuse, misconceptions about deaf community and cultural diversity.

We have all the equipment we need for actual shooting, our friends are helping with some of the locations and additional equipment, we are also getting huge support from deaf community and our cast and crew are dedicating their time and energy for free.

This film will be directed at major film festivals.

What We Need & What You Get

But (and there's a huge BUT) we still need at least $2000 in order to feed the cast and crew and provide at least gas money for them, we also are hoping to get most of the locations for free but we still need to pay for insurance, so this is where all the money will go, we are really 

hoping we'll be able to raise a lot more than our minimum amount, that way we would be able to pay the cast and crew minimum day rate. Thanks to our immediate family members we were able to purchase the camera we'll be using for the shoot (Canon 5D Mark II), we are expecting small funds for pre-production from our friends as well, but "Indie gogo" is our main fundraising campaign and source in order to keep or cast and crew fed during the shoot we do need this minimum amount of $2000.

We are offering cool perks and rewards for different amounts of donations, like fine art photography digital images and prints, DVD copy of the finished film, invitation to the screening and wrap party, THANK YOU credit at the end of the film titles (depending on how much you donate), cool t-shirts and of course huge gratitude to everyone who contributes.

Synopsis: From their childhood years to working at a Deaf school in Texas, Jackie and Seth have always love to.. HATE each other! The fact that they are working closely in the same school did not help matters. For all their bad blood with each other, something bad had happened to them: their bodies have been switched! What follows is a series of laugh-a-minute hijinks as Jackie and Seth struggle to get back to their bodies. Because of that, they have no choice but to work together in order to save themselves.  With time running out, Jackie and Seth must find a way to get back in their bodies before they get stuck in the opposite sex of bodies forever! Versa Effect is the first comedy film directed by the venerable Mark Wood. Versa Effect is filmed in the vein of Freaky Friday that will be enjoyed by everyone of all ages!

DEAF JAM by Judy Lieff

We've all heard of poetry slams, but Judy Lieff's DEAF JAM (70 min) takes us in an entirely different direction: she follows a group of deaf teens who use American Sign Language (ASL) to perform poetry in a dramatically visual way. Among the teens is Aneta Brodski, an Israeli immigrant, who goes on to become one of the first deaf competitors in a National Poetry Slam.

In an unexpected twist, Aneta then meets Tahani, a hearing Palestinian slam poet. The two young women embark on a hearing/deaf collaboration, thereby creating a performance duet that is a metaphor for the complex realities they share – generating a new form of slam poetry that speaks to both the hearing and the Deaf.

The Heart Is A Lonely Hunter follows John Singer, a deaf man who resides in a local boarding house, and four other vivid but desperately lonesome residents in a Georgia mill town during the 1930s. Mick Kelly, a 14-year-old tomboy who dreams of becoming a concert pianist; Benedict Copeland, the town’s only black doctor; Jake Blount, a drunken political activist; and Biff Brannon, a recent widower and owner of the town’s diner and bar. As each finds solace in Singer’s ability to listen, they all unintentionally overlook their confidant’s profound isolation in this timeless tale woven from the lives of ordinary people.

THE HOLLYWOOD REPORTER: SAG Offers Indie Filmmakers Low-Budget Advice

SAG’s David White says indie films are “an incubator of creativity today when big budget film economics often make new ideas a riskier business.”

The Screen Actors Guild stands ready to help independent producers get their projects before the cameras, guild executives said Saturday at a panel devoted to indie filmmaking at the annual Produced by Conference.

SAGIndie national director Darrien Michelle Gipson focused on SAG’s variety of low-budget agreements: “You can get the best actors you ever imagined for $100 a day,” she remarked, patting fellow panelist William Mapother on the back as she did so.

SAG deputy national executive director Ray Rodriguez pointed to a variety of online resources offered by the guild, including SAG’s new online Production Center at SAG.org/Production-Center. That resource was highlighted at the beginning of the panel by SAG national executive director David White, who played a video demonstrating the site.

Mapother also had a digital resource to share: His company, Slated, is in beta testing on an online marketplace for film financing.

Stories of luck and perseverance were also on display Saturday at the SAG-sponsored panel in Burbank.

For writer-director Dito Montiel, the key to making his debut film, “A Guide to Recognizing Your Saints,” was the trust reposed in him by “an actor who just got out of jail” – his description of Robert Downey, Jr. – and by producer Trudie Styler,“who was crazy enough to give me a chance writing and directing.”

Actor-writer-director Clark Gregg cited insanity of a different kind as helping out with the making of his “Choke,” a Sundance Special Jury prize winner that is probably the only movie in existence centering on a sex addicted colonial theme park worker. In Gregg’s case, locations were an issue and, to his delight, he managed to find a county in New Jersey with the necessary facilities: “an insane asylum and a schlocky zoo.” The unnamed county was “very helpful,” he added – making for an appropriate anecdote at a show co-sponsored by the Association of Film Commissioners International.

The panel was introduced with remarks by SAG national president Ken Howard, who said “SAG values independent films and filmmakers like you” and by White, who also highlighted independent film, calling it “an incubator of creativity today when big budget film economics often make new ideas a riskier business.”

The annual Produced By Conference is in its third year, and this time is being held in conjunction with the AFCI’s Locations Show, with several dozen panels and speaker events, as well as about 200 exhibitor booths. The two-day-event, held this year at Disney Studios in Burbank, concludes Sunday.

Tirf Alexius will direct "Critical Nexus" a thriller written by Todd Heller and scheduled for production on April 19, 2011 - shooting for 28 days through the end of May, 2011. Principal photography will take place primarily in the Chicagoland area-employing a cast of nearly sixty Chicago-based union and non-union actors.

Plot Outline	When a 16 year old girl’s video blog is seen by the wrong man, everyone’s sordid past comes into focus. Katie had no choice but to kill the man who tried to rape her, and now when girls who look like her are being brutally murdered, she has no choice but to run. She’s looking for answers on the road to Las Vegas, which she understands is the capital of both marriage and suicide. In her mind, she equates that fact to her own feeling that sex and death are inextricably intertwined. Now she wants to get to the bottom of it once and for all.
